Under The Surface
An exhibition with painting in disguise
From 12 April through 11 May the artist run space RC de Ruimte in IJmuiden, The Netherlands, presents 'Under The Surface'. Under The Surface is an exhibition with an international selection of contemporary artists working in the field of non objective art. It's a show about painting without paintings. Or more accurately; it's painting in disguise. The paintings are disguised as photograph, design object, sculpture, relief, installation, architectural construction, stack or mural. The group of artists brought together by guest curator Jan Maarten Voskuil are artists who are not satisfied by the flat surface alone. They do not want to depict but realize. Whereby the painting is a suggested space in a flat surface, the space has been made into reality in their work.
Participating artists are Michal Skoda (Cz); Tilman (B/D); Krijn de Koning; Guido Winkler; Jan Robert Leegte; Henriëtte van 't Hoog; Tonneke Sengers; Billy Gruner (AUS) Kuno Grommers; Sebastian Freytag (D); Jan Kaemmerling (D); Maike Mei Lan; Jan Maarten Voskuil; Justin Andrews (AUS); Daniel Argyle (AUS); Clemens Hollerer (AT) and René Eicke (NL/D)
